RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication"—a technology that allows you to know when new content is available on websites without having to check the site itself. You can see the universal symbol for RSS feeds at the right: a square (often orange) with waves radiating from a dot in the lower-left corner.
You receive these updates by adding a site's RSS "feed" URL to a specific news reading program. Some websites, such as feedly will also allow you to view these updates all in one place.
